ENGL 0960

Students taking 0960 should feel confident reading directions, reading articles and short textbook passages, responding to readings, constructing complete sentences and short paragraphs.

In 0960 students will learn to develop and improve basic grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure skills while being introduced to the writing process. They will also develop and improve reading comprehension skills, reading strategies, vocabulary, and reading flexibility at an intermediate level.

ENGL 0970

Students taking 0970 should feel confident reading and responding critically to articles and textbook passages and composing paragraphs and short essays.

In 0970 students will expand upon grammar, usage, and sentence structure skills while employing the writing process effectively. They will also develop and improve reading comprehension skills, reading strategies, vocabulary, and reading flexibility at an advanced level.

ENGL 1000 or ENGL 1010

Students taking 1000 should feel confident reading and responding to brief articles and textbook passages; as well as, composing and editing complete sentences and short paragraphs.

In 1000 students will demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between strong writing skills and college/career success. Students will compose professional emails, resumes, brochures, and other business focused writings. Intended for AAS students.

Students taking 1010 should feel confident employing reading strategies in order to comfortably read multiple articles and respond critically. They should have knowledge of grammar, usage, and sentence structure skills. They should be familiar with writing essays and have a basic understanding of the editing and proofreading process.

In 1010 students will practice the techniques of effective writing. They will work through the process of planning, writing, revising, and editing essays for particular audiences and purposes. Students will compose multiple writings including a personal, an informative, and a persuasive essay. They will research information with emphasis on supporting claims.
