Learn New Techniques To Prepare Students For College Coursework

Central Community College (CCC) provides skill-based workshops for high school educators in the 25-county service area to learn techniques and procedures taught at the college level. These professional development workshops will provide useful information, activities, and training to help educators prepare students for future success.

Who will receive the stipend?

  • High school instructors in the CCC 25-county service area who teach in the discipline or related field of the workshop
  • High school counselors in the CCC 25-county service area
  • High school Early College contact person(s) from CCC 25-county service area

A stipend is available to those who qualify and attend each day. 

All high school counselors, teachers, and staff are welcome to register for these workshops.

DSGN - Hands-on Manufacturing (Hastings) (May 28-30)

In this workshop, we will design and build a fidget spinner and accessories. We will use solid modeling software, 3D printers, and a CNC Mill to manufacture the fidget spinner and assemble all the components. No manufacturing experience is necessary.

One day will be a tour of local manufacturing companies.

ENGL - Teaching Dual Credit English Composition I & II (Kearney) (May 29)

  • Integrating Turn-it-in into the Canvas Modules
  • Seamless essay grading using the Turn-it-in grading features
  • Creating your rubric in Turn-it-in
  • ASL evaluations over the final essay

HMRM - Creole, Soul Food, and Sushi with Culinary Arts (Hastings) (May 29-30)

This hands-on workshop will be in our culinary lab. We will demonstrate techniques and fundamentals of creole, soul food, and sushi. You will learn about the history, help prepare dishes, and taste all the delicious food.

AUTO - NC3 Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS5) Certification (Hastings) (June 10)

This workshop is for anyone wanting to learn more about Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems used in automotive or light truck applications. We will be using the new Snap-On TPMS5 tool for this Certification. This is a great Certification for entry-level work for High School and College level students as well as entry-level Technicians.

Please bring to this workshop: a laptop, safety glasses, work shoes/boots, and long pants.

The FAA requires individuals to possess a remote pilot certificate for instructors to fly drones with their students. This workshop prepares you to take the FAA Remote Pilot Knowledge Exam to fly drones for education legally. We will also cover career options related to drones and the possibilities available for what drones can do for agricultural operations.

Join us to explore the Criminal Justice Program at CCC and discover what it has to offer!

This event offers a hands-on experience where you can learn about conducting real crime scene investigations. You will have the opportunity to participate in various activities at the CCC Crime House, such as fingerprinting, mold castings, and crime scene management. Additionally, you will visit the Grand Island Evidence Lab and speak with their Evidence Technician. Experts in the field will come in and discuss actual crime scene investigations and share their experiences with real-life investigations.

What is it like to take an online speech course?

In this workshop, we will dive into the experience of taking an online speech course. Participants will get the chance to take part in fun activities and visit the CCC pollinator garden.

This workshop will cover the following areas:

Structure: Gain insight into the organization and layout of an online speech class, including how lessons are structured and how students progress through the class.

Digital Tools: Explore the various digital tools such as Harmonize, Yuja, and Canvas that are used in the online speech course.

Student Engagement: Discover how students engage in discussions and speech activities, as well as general speech rubrics.

Guidelines: Learn about speech recording guidelines and the requirements of the Nebraska Transfer Initiative.

We will explore three significant aspects of the Criminal Justice System with hands-on experiences in all areas.

Individuals will tour the Hall County jail, attend drug court, participate in law enforcement ride-a-longs, and visit the Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center for Girls in Hastings, NE.

Transportation is available for off-campus activities.

Tour Dress Code: casual dress, no shorts, or graphics on shirts.

ECED - Empowering Educators: Introducing Paraeducator & Early Childhood Certificates (Grand Island) (June 25)

Attendees will discover how these enhancements offer valuable pathways for career advancement and empower both current and future paraeducators and early childhood educators.

This workshop is intended to have freedom and versatility within the welding lab. The welding processes we will focus on will be Gas Tungsten Arc, Shielded Metal Arc, Gas Metal Arc, and Oxy-Acetylene Welding and/or Brazing. We will cover the basic theory of each process and talk about how they relate to our FFA district competition. The majority of the time will be spent in the welding lab.

We want this to be flexible, so come with questions if you have them!

Protective welding gear will be provided unless you prefer to bring your own gear. Jeans and closed-toe shoes (preferably boots) will be required to wear at this workshop.
